Consultation and a water analysis are essential to determine the causes and correct treatment for whatever application the water is to be used for.

Filtration is the most efficient, user friendly and cost effective way of providing your home with purified water. However, it is important that the correct filter is used. For example, if a carbon filter alone is used for tank water, it makes the problem worse because it encourages the growth of bacteria. Carbon, however, is very effective in removing taste and odour from water that is bacteria free.

This site only mentions the most common problems associated with the different water sources. However, we have found that each situation needs to be assessed individually. For example, the concern with town water is usually one of taste and odour from chlorination. However, some town water is extremely hard and this problem needs to be addressed in a different way.

.[/restab] [restab title=”For Parasites”]Parasites or cysts, such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium, are easily filtered out of water using micro-filtration. Ultra-violet light and ozone will also sterilise parasites. Parasites, although relatively large cannot be seen with the naked eye, nor can we taste them. Chlorine will not sterilise parasites. [/restab] [restab title=”For Bacteria”]Bacteria is usually removed by micro-filtration or sterilised with ultra-violet light. It can also be removed by oxidation using ozone, hydrogen peroxide, or chlorine (as is commonly used in town water treatments).[/restab] [restab title=”For Sediment”]Removal of sediment from water is the basic requirement for most water treatment. This can be done using large sieve filters (eg.. top of a rain water tank) right through to micro-filtration and finer. Sediment is removed by filtration or flocculation.[/restab] [restab title=”For Water Hardness”]

Installation of the correct water softeners will correct the following symptoms:

  • Water will not lather with soap
  • Soap suds & scum sticks to wash basins & bath
  • White/grey scale in pipes
  • Blocked dishwasher pipes
  • Scale build-up in agricultural pipes
  • Hot water heaters (conventional & solar) will scale on heating surfaces causing inefficiency or complete failure
  • Boiler pipes blocked with scale
  • Shower heads, hydroponic drips, dental drill tips etc. blocked
  • Drying marks on crockery, cutlery, film surfaces, or car duco after washing etc.

On other applications magnetiser technologies may be used especially for descaling and larger flow rate applications: eg. Irrigation & feed water for boiler or heat exchangers.  [/restab][/restabs]
